Overview

The Virunga National Park formerly known as the Albert National Park is located between Lake Edward and Lake Kivu.

The Name “Virunga” is a Rwandese name for Mountains.  The National Park stretches from the Virunga Mountains in the South, to the Rwenzori Mountains in the North, and in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, bordering the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Queen Elisabeth National Park in Uganda.

The Virunga Mountains are home of the endangered mountain gorilla.
