Overview

Lamu town is located at the coastal part of Kenya and it has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As Kenya's oldest living town, you will be able to view history in living form, as the town still has remnants of what it used to be years ago. The town began its life in the early 14th century where a lot of commerce was practiced, with traders from China, Turkey & Omani Arabs. The are no vehicles in Lamu except one which the district commissioner uses, other than that all transportation is by the donkey.

Lamu is host to exciting international events such as the Lamu yoga festival, Lamu cultural festival and the Maulidi Festival, This is a festival where pilgrims from as far as sudan and the congo come to Lamu to sing the praise of Prophet Mohammad

The robust Swahili architecture which can be seen in the small & narrow corners in the building hallways.

Lamu Museum: This is where the island's ceremonial horn called siwa is preserved

Mnarani Mosque

Riyadha Mosque: The Mosque is where the Maulidi Festival is held.

Lamu Fort: The fort was built by Fumo Madi ibn Abi Bakr who was the Sultan of Pate. He built the fort to protect members of his unpopular government.
